The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) have moved the 2024 National Trials to the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City, Edo State.
The Trials, which will be used to select the Nigerian track and field teams to the African Senior Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroun, the World Athletics U20 Championships in Peru, and the Paris Olympic Games, will hold from 16-18 June, 2024.
AFN President, Tonobok Okowa told the media that the change was to allow the Nigerian student-athletes to rest and recover after competing at the NCAA Finals in the USA.
“The NCAA in the United States will end on June 8, and we want our athletes to be in their best at both the National Trials and African Championships,” said Okowa.
“The African Championships in Douala will hold from June 21 to 26, and thereafter, our focus will be on preparations for the Olympics. I am praying and hoping that Team Nigeria will top the medals table in Douala and also win gold medals at the Olympics. God will help us.”
