The 100m hurdles world record holder, Tobi Amusan, has been selected for Nigeria’s relay squad for the 13th African Games in Ghana, according to the final list of athletes released by the AFN.

In addition to her usual 100m hurdles event, Amusan will be competing in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.

The 2022 World 100m hurdles champion will be aiming to become only the second Nigerian woman to successfully defend an African Games title in the same event twice, after Vivian Chukwuemeka, who won the Shot Put title three times at Johannesburg ’99 in South Africa, the Abuja 2003 Games in Nigeria, and 2007 in Algeria.

Tobi Amusan won her maiden African Games women’s hurdles title on her debut in 2015, and she successfully defended it in 2019, setting a new 12.68 seconds Games Record in the process.

Now, she is aiming for a third consecutive title in the event, which would make her the only Nigerian woman to achieve such a feat in track and field in the history of the Games.

The Athletics event will start on Monday March 18th.
