Nigerian women’s 4x400m and 4x100m relay team won silver and bronze medals respectively at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games on Saturday.
Nigerian women’s 4x100m relay team won the bronze medal in the women’s final at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games on Saturday.
The quartet of Blessing Okagbare, Oluwatobiloba Amusan, Isoken Igbinosun and Rosemary Chukwuma clocked 42.72 seconds to take the bronze medal.
The England quartet won the gold medal in a time of 42.46 secs while Jamaica claimed the silver in 42.52 secs.
The women’s 4x400m quartet of Patience Okon-George, Glory Onome Nathaniel, Praise Idamadudu and Yinka Ajayi went a step further, claiming the silver medal in the women’s relay later in the day in a time of 3:25:29.
Jamaica won the gold medal in a time of 3:24:00 while Amantle Montsho led Botswana team smashed their national record to take bronze in 3:26.86.
Earlier, the Nigerian quartet of Seye Ogunlewe, Ogho-Oghene Egwero, Usheorishe Itsekiri and Enoch Adegoke were disqualified in the men’s 4x100m for illegal exchange violation after dropping the baton.
England won the gold with a season best of 38.13 while South Africa won silver with a national record of 38.24 secs. Jamaica took the bronze medal with a season best of 38.35 secs.
