Athletics Federation of Nigeria has appointed a 10-man committee to work out modalities of transporting the Abuja Grand Prix to an IAAF grade one status.
Benue State governor and honorary president of the AFN, Gabriel Suswan heads the committee, which has the mandate to source for sponsorship and organise the best ever Grand Prix meet ever staged on the African continent.
“We are aiming to make the Abuja Grand prix a world class event.
This is why we want to have a superb organisation and then at the end have it up graded by the IAAF,” said a member of the federation after the meeting in Abuja.
Other members of the committee include: Sunday Bada, Victor Onogagamue, Patience Itanyi and former national triple jump record holder, Rosa Colins.
Others are Deji Tinubu, Navy Capt Omatseye Netiama, Dr. Godfrey Ogu, Ibrahim Gusau and AFN secretary-general, Maria Worphill.
